Obama wins the Nobel Prize

Obama wins the Nobel Prize

Update:  Great opinion piece by Karl Rove on the Wall St Journal regarding this bizzare award.

So I wake up way too early this AM and begin to peruse Jpost and Ynet to see what’s up for the day.  An article catches my eye which makes little sense to me.  Since it’s not specific to Israel per se, I figure it’s worldly context would allow for publication in the more well known periodicals.  So, I wandered over to the New York Times online and saw confirmation.  Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Now don’t get me wrong.  I don’t think Obama is an evil person (you’d be hard pressed to convince some of my friends of that), though I don’t agree with his politics  I’m sure he has been working tirelessly to fix America (the economy, health-care, etc.).  I am just wondering what he has really done to deserve a Nobel Prize.  Some people work their whole lives before getting acknowledged.  Some who do great things are never acknowledged.

I would like someone to tell me something, anything Obama has done that would merit forgetting he hasn’t even finished his first year of being President of the United States and already he can move to GO and collect $200.  A few things come to mind for me:

1) He’s the first Black (African American if you prefer) President of the US.  A great achievement in tolerance, but that’s on the American Electorate, not him.

2) He’s not Bush.  Guess that’s enough for most of the world.  At least Bush tried to do something.  All I have heard from Obama is how he plans to reach out to the scum of the earth in the hopes that they will ‘like us’.

3) He seems like he will get tough with Israel. Enough to please most of the rest of the un-free world.

Again, nothing against the man, but I remember his election campaign.  His followers would have elected Obama ‘Jesus’ if such a thing were possible.  Evidently, the Obama magic is working all over the world as the Nobel Committee saw fit to award him a Peace Prize.  Based on what great body of work behind him, I have no idea.  Maybe someone can enlighten me.  Please.
