2009 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry

2009 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry

Rack up another one.  Ada Yonath shared the Nobel Prize in chemistry with 2

Americans for their work in explaining how ribosomes act on the atomic level.  Yeah, I dont get it either, but Mazal Tov to her and to Israel.

That makes 9 Nobel prizes for Israel in 61 years.  Not too shabby.  Just for verities sake, there are 10 Nobel Peace prizes for the entire Muslim world, and one of the Nobel laureates is Yasser Arafat.  Keep plugging away boys..

Raed Salah arrested and then released?

Raed Salah at the Temple Mount

Raed Salah at the Temple Mount

Salah, the head of the Islamic Movement’s Northern Branch was arrested in Wadi Joz for incitement and sedition.  This guy has 7 impending police investigations against him and the best the courts can do is send him home and tell him not to go to Jerusalem for 30 days.

Why the Israeli court system thinks this is a smart idea I’ll never know.  But, sadly, this goes along with the current ‘kid gloves’ approach the Israeli government takes with any Arab of any note who has a beef with Israel.  You can read more crap like this from Ahmed Tibi, an MK who for some reason, Israel chooses to allow to stay in the Knesset when he should be turned out of the country or at least in jail.  The sad part is, he is representing the point of view of his constituency.  He must be, as he keeps getting re-elected.  Oh well, at least we know what the people who keep putting him in office are thinking.

Now you even have Fatah members saying, “Yup, if Israel doesn’t back off, there will be a third Intifada’.  Great….the whole chorus is singing.  Why no one internationally is trying to help Israel get the Arabs to back off is beyond me, but as mentioned previously, if they want to start another Intifada, Israel should defend itself and it’s citizens accordingly with all due force.

Intifada 3?
October 6th, 2009 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

If you’ve been watching the news the last few days, you might think you are caught in a time warp.  ‘Al-Aqsa is in danger!!”  Raed Salah, screaming at the top of his lungs for Muslims to defend Jerusalem.  You might think its 2000 again.  You’d be wrong.

Back after too long a break
October 4th, 2009 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

I don’t know where this blog went off the rails, but sometime in July of  last year the fates or other circumstances conspired in my cessation of anything useful to post.  I wish I had a better ‘excuse’ than that but as best as I can recall, I just stopped.

Needless to say, I am not looking to repeat that again with the current ‘re-launch’ of this blog/site.  ‘Re-launch’ is probably not the best word as there is no pomp and fanfare this time around.  I had been kicking around getting back to posting again around Rosh Hashana, but when I tried to get back into the site, the individual who graciously hosts Tzomet had taken this and another site he runs offline while he was upgrading his servers.  So much for busting out of the gates.

I hope to again bring you insights into what is happening in the Holyland and the Jewish world in general and as always welcome your comments, insults, or whatever else you hurl this way.

It’s good to be back!

Oh yeah, and happy Sukkot.

Gilad Shalit is alive
October 2nd, 2009 under Gilad Shalit, Hamas, Israel. [ Comments: none ]

I don’t know if this means he will be home any sooner, but at least we know he is alive, appears sane and is not incapacitated in any way

20 skanks for a video.  I guess it was worth it for proof of life.  The only question now is, how many murderers is it going to take to free him for real?  And should he ever be brought home, how will Israel change it’s policy to prevent thousands from being released for one soldier again?

Will wonders never cease?

Just because we are used to great scientific advancements emanating daily from Israel doesnt mean we should cease being amazed at all the useful technology

Check out the below video of an amazing medical advancement from Argo Medical Technologies based in Haifa.  They developed an exo-skeleton that attaches to the legs of a parapalegic and give him the ability to walk around and go about his day as would anyone.  The patient in the video had been confined to a wheelchair for 20 years before this invention.  Now he can even walk up and down stairs!!  Amazing.

Here we go again
July 20th, 2008 under Gaza, Gilad Shalit. [ Comments: none ]

ShalitNot that this is news to anyone, but you knew after the miserable terms of the swap last week with Hezbollah, that the way would be paved for Israel acceding to Hamas’ increased demands for the release of Gilad Shalit.  Read here if you think the Israeli government has learned it’s lesson about what one bad deal entails.  No deal is an island unto itself….it will cascade into policy for the terrorist groups who will all demand the increased terms of the deal that preceded the one they want.

Now that Israel gave Hezbollah everything it wanted for 2 dead bodies and a box of various body parts of other soldiers, other groups are taking the hint.  Can anyone give me one reason Hamas still has to keep Gilad alive?  Give up?  Then you are on the money. Read more »

Final thoughts before the swap
July 15th, 2008 under Gilad Shalit, Hezbollah, Israel, Kuntar, Lebanon, Nasrallah, Regev. [ Comments: 1 ]

Prisoner SwapSo, it had come down to this. Tomorrow, Israel will send back the murderer, Samir Kuntar, 4 Hezbollah fighters captured in the 2006 Lebanon War along with the bodies of almost 200 Hezbollah fighters, the release of an as yet undetermined number of Palestinian prisoners and a report on Iranian diplomats kidnapped in the 1980’s.

What is Israel getting in return? Well, if you believe the reports from the Lebanese media, Read more »

Blaming those charged to protect?
July 10th, 2008 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: 3 ]

Dead like her should beImagine you are with family, friends and acquaintances

Now, imagine that a lunatic happens upon your gathering with a gun and starts shooting into the crowd. Some of the shooting seemed directed at people personally while others were sprayed at random

Everyone is of course frightened shocked and horrified, ducking for cover and doing anything they can to get away. Many people at the party are armed as well, and while this madman walks around, people with the presence of mind Read more »

More troubles for Israel
July 9th, 2008 under Hezbollah, Israel. [ Comments: none ]

Iranian missilesIn the wake of the lone madman (so say the police) who took a bulldozer on a joyride and took 3 lives and injured dozens more, and also in contrast to it, things are going wrong for Israel on a non-lone madman level.  The more orchestrated campaign against Israel took 2 turns for the worse today and as usual, no one has any good solutions for it.

First, the known problem.  Hezbollah has been rearming via Syria almost since the war ended 2 years ago.  After the war, UNSCR 1701was supposed to not only prevent Hezbollah from deploying south of the Litani River, but also the re-armament of the organization.  They had 13000 missiles with which to fire back in 2006.  The new figure today puts it at 40000+ short and medium range missiles.  Not to mention of course that there is also evidence of about 2500 Hezbollah fighters Read more »
